The Arvin Cadet Physical
Development Center is a new six-story full service facility
that will serve as the cornerstone of athletic training for
all Army Cadets. The center provides
state of the art sporting venues strategically located
within 350,000 square feet of usable space. The new facility
consists of three large pools (instructional, intramural,
hydro-therapy), sports medicine areas, nine gymnasia, twelve
squash/handball courts, twelve wrestling areas, physical
education administration/coach offices, gymnastics, four
boxing rings, and two judo/martial arts areas, major rooftop
mechanical penthouses, new electrical substation and service
area, and various other supporting functions/spaces. The
centerpiece of the facility is a full height lobby atrium
with a custom skylight, spanning both it and an adjacent
three-story high climbing wall.

An
integrated network of Honeywell XL15 controllers along
with XL10 VAV2 and XL10 FCU controllers controls the
mechanical systems. The building is comprised of 2
Chillers, 2 Cooling Towers, 13 HV Units, 5 AHU’s, 6 Heat
Exchangers, 47 VAV boxes, 15 Fan Coil Units (FCU),
approximately 100 Exhaust Fans, 22 Unit Heaters and 1
Emergency Generator. The system was programmed using the
Tridium Work Place Pro environment and is connected to
the base-wide facility LAN. This allows the facility
engineers to make programming changes and download them
remotely from a any workstation on the facility LAN
using Work Place Pro.
The XL15 standalone controllers
are monitored from the Tridium Niagara graphical front end.
This allows the end user to view animated graphics of each
system and its associated control. points, floor plans that
show sensors and controllers as well as overview screens to
see the main aspects of the 18 HV & AHU’s on one screen.
